App of the Month (October 2012): My Singing Monsters
Every month we choose an mobile game we’ve had extensive exposure to and we give them the crown of being the best app of the month. My Singing Monsters is this month’s app of the month for October 2012.
The game was released in late August 2012 so we’ve had at least a month’s worth exposure to tell you all the goodies in this game. We’ve gone through each bit of the game and it’s simply one of the most unique breeding games out there today.
At Gameteep, we’ve played tons of dragon, monster, and breeding collectible games. My Singing Monsters is by far the most unique game using the breeding gameplay formula. When we say breeding, I’m sure we’ll all think about DragonVale since it’s the most popular breeding game out there today. However, My Singing Monsters changes the traditional gameplay to a musical focus.
When we picked up the game, we knew it was going to be astounding. We generally focus on writing about the designs implemented by the game creator (creature and evolution design) but with “My Singing Monsters”, it was all about the music.
If you play the game with the sound off, you are only getting 20% of the gaming experience. It’s the creative work placed into the soundtrack and music that makes this game stand out from the other games.
Gameplay
After the long introduction, you’ll probably wonder what the gameplay is like. Well, we’ll keep it short because we know you probably want to get your hands on this spectacular game in the App Store.
The gameplay is similar to other breeding games you’ve played with a mix of music and monsters. Each monster will have a different tune and you can start creating your tunes immediately after hatching your very monsters. You can create your tunes by muting and un-muting your monsters.
To create more monsters, you breed for them! And the more monsters = better music for your musical monster island!
