Godzilla – Smash3 Gameplay

The game is dubbed Godzilla – Smash3 By Rogue Play, Inc and at first glace you would think it’s a action game but it’s not. The game is puzzle-based and when you complete an “puzzle-action” it transfers to Godzilla as an action from his various attack skills from punching to stomping on his enemies.

There’s not much to mention here other than you’ll be connecting the same colors and then launching Godzilla’s attacks. Keep in mind that it doesn’t need to go three in a row, straight and vertical but you can connect as much as you can and even diagonally.

Godzilla – Smash3 Graphics

Graphics is where the game gets the points, the graphics in this game is amazing and rivals some of the most graphic intensive mobile games out there like the recent The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Godzilla – Smash3 Sounds

There’s not much of a story for the game so you won’t be listening to hours on end of dialogue/scenes but more the sounds of Godzilla crushing his enemies.

Godzilla – Smash3 Round-up

I think most players were expecting an action game where you’ll actually have the ability to control the ultimate beast but there is a slight twist to Godzilla – Smash3 that makes it good in it’s own rights to certain players – especially people that enjoy puzzle games. For everyone else, you’ll probably find yourself dying and not enjoying the beast on mobile as much as you’ll find yourself dying from reckless decisions which can be frustrating.

One of the thing that really strikes me if that the attacks Godzilla deals is pretty weak considering we’re looking at one of the most fearsome beast in folktale. His punches merely would damage a plane or ship at about 25% health depending on your move but in theory that would crush any man-made object but hey it’s a game after all.

For Apple iOS users, you’ll need to have anything above an iPhone 4S to get it to run, if you’re looking for a smooth experience then you’ll probably need something faster. While on Android devices you’ll probably need something on par with the iPhone 4S and above in terms of capabilities to run the game.

Bottom line: Love the graphics but gameplay needs improvements.

Mega Dead Pixel has the potential to become a very popular app, especially for people in their 20’s. Since most of us 20-something-year-olds have grown up with Space Invader arcade game machines, consoles running Super Mario Bros. and various computer games such as Volfied and  Prehistoric, Mega Dead Pixel would be some sort of return to the past.

Retro games are now trending. And Mega Dead Pixel is nothing less than an endless runner retro game. It has all the features needed for making it to the top – it is fun to play and extremely addictive.

Mega Dead Pixel Gameplay

The gameplay is similar to other endless runners: avoid bumping into anything. Apart from that, Mega Dead Pixel brings something more: if you increase the size of your pixel, when you hit an obstacle your pixel size decreases, but you still get points for destroying it. Achieving the Mega Dead Pixel state seems to be something like a bonus and will give you tons and tons of points, but make sure you stop bumping into everything when you are turning back to a small size pixel, and start redrawing the shapes. There are various things you can purchase using game currency in order to make your run more effective. One thing you can buy is hats.  Each hat you buy gives you certain benefits but it also has downsides, so chose it wisely. What I really enjoyed about it is the fact you aren’t allowed to buy certain features until you have completed a specific number of missions. The producers are also funny, every single hat has a very unique feature (that won’t be of help in the game). To give you an example, the “Like a Sir” hat has the perk that “everything you suddenly do seems very sophisticated”

Of course, there are several bonuses available, and they will make your life much easier. However, even if the missions aren’t very difficult, you will see that gold coins don’t add up as easy as you’d like them to. Of course, this makes part of the challenge. You have to work quite a lot at first to get your pixel as equipped as it should be, but it is going to be worth it.

Mega Dead Pixel Graphics

I wish that there was more to say about the graphics side of this game, but there isn’t. They’re all intended to be pixels and as a consequence, they are pixels. But this is actually what makes this game so special. It is fun to freefall through a sea of pixel-shapes and draw them all. Or destroy them all. The bad part comes when they destroy you.  But even when you get destroyed, there’s no problem, some fun comments (such as “Die another day”) are going to wait for you. There is no harm in that.

Mega Dead Pixel Sounds

Here is the part where I don’t really agree with Chilligo’s choice. While the sound effects are actually nice, and they inform you through the intensity of the sound about how close are you to achieving Mega Dead Pixel status, the 8-bit style music is a little bit distracting. It is perfectly fine at first, but after some time it is going to get you tired and it will act as a distraction. But if you find you have a problem with it, there’s no problem, you can always go in the options music and turn it off.

Mega Dead Pixel Round-up

When I first got this app, I thought it wouldn’t take me more than two days of sporadic playing to review it.  Well, I have actually spent a few hours in a row, hooked to my iPad, and pushing the AGAIN button. With all its up and downs, it is really addictive.

Bottom line: it is really addictive.
