The iPad Air is what Apple is calling their next iPad upgrade from the 4th generation. It won’t be officially called the iPad 5 and it comes with a thinner, lighter design and faster processing speed for mobile gaming or other applications that can use an enormous amount of power.
Apple unveils this fifth-generation of the iPad today (Tuesday October 22, 2013) at their special event. The technology giant has promised that the new iPad Air will be trimmed down to 1 pound from 1.4 pounds in weight. It is also 20% thinner than the previous version and is approximately 28% lighter than the 4th generation iPad.
iPad Air
The iPad Air is expected to have the same 9.7-inch screen as the original iPads and will feature a lighter and thinner design. It will have the A7 processing chip built into the device which is the same processor as the iPhone 5S that is capable of 64-Bit architecture processing power.
The device will come with the lightning port and the latest version of the iOS 7. Even with the new capabilities of the iPad Air the battery life will still be the same lasting 10 hours. The unit will go on sale in stores on November 1st.
New iPad Mini 2
The new iPad mini announced at the event did not surprise anyone as people were expecting the high resolution “Retina Display” to be added into the iPad Mini 2. Since the iPhones and iPod Touch got it, it just makes no sense for the iPad Mini not to get it.
The new iPad Mini 2 will have the same processor as the iPad Air and the iPhone 5S which is the A7 processor.
Is this good for gaming?
During the last release of the 4th-gen iPad, we said anyone with the iPad 3 should probably hold off on upgrading to the latest version since there’s not much of a difference between the two. With the iPad Air, they (Apple) are allowing developers to take their game developments to the next level.
If you have been looking for a good gaming device, then this may be a good chance to get your hands on the latest iPad Air. The iPad 2 is still in the market at a lower price but lacks the Retina Display and speed for intensive gaming. So if you want to do gaming then check out the iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 today!
