Final Fantasy Dimensions is another addictive story-compelling game that brings RPG back to its roots. It features a brand new story and is definitely a classic for Final Fantasy RPG fans.

Final Fantasy Dimensions was released in late August as a “FREE” game to download but the game itself is definitely not FREE. It seems Square Enix has begun marking games as free but is locking content unless you pay to unlock it. The total price for this game is $28 if you choose to unlock everything. You do however get to play the prologue for free.

The Story is focused on the Warriors of Light and the Warriors of Dark, where two parties are separated when a nasty wizard decides to destroy the “Crystal”. The world will be separated and you will be able to control both parties (Nacht or Sol) as the party progresses to save the world.

We’ve tested the game for about a month so we’ll tell you all you need to know about the game before purchasing the full game. This game has been highly criticized by downloaders for its price and gameplay so we’ll let you know if that’s true or not.

Final Fantasy Dimensions Gameplay

The gameplay for the game is very similar to classic Final Fantasy games like FFI and FFII. You’ll have the classic artwork oppose to the 3D graphics in FFIII, the common elements to an RPG, and of course the almost annoying random encounters.

The most notable aspects of FF Dimensions are the Job System, the Summons, and the story.

Job System

FF Dimensions brings players the Job System, where you get to develop each character according to whatever class you want. In this game the Crystal will grant your characters Jobs such as Warrior, Monk, Thief, Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage, and the Summer to start. You will find multiple other jobs depending on party as your story progress.

 Eidolon (Summons)

Eidolon, or the creatures you summon like Shiva, Odin, and so on makes an appearance in this game. If you’re a FF fan then these creatures are almost a must have in the game and you can use them when equipped with the Summoner Job.

You’ll need to find each summon separately by defeating them throughout the game.

The Story

The story in this game is probably the most captivating portion of this game for old FF fans. It brings players back to the world of the Crystals and job. Two parties set out to find the Crystal when an Wizard destroys the Crystal separating the world into Light and Dark.

You will get to play as the Warriors of Light and the Warriors of Dark on two separate stories which eventually connect as one.  We’re not going to spoil the story for you so you’ll have to play it.

Final Fantasy Dimensions Graphics

There’s nothing special about the graphics for FF Dimensions. Its old school graphics that looks similar to remakes on the PSX or PSP. It’s definitely sharper than the SNES FF games but definitely not 3D like FFIII. It’s more like Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II in iTunes.

Final Fantasy Dimensions Sounds

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy is known to have music composed that will simply draw the players into the game. It’s no different in FF Dimensions, the sound effects and music is simply amazing.

Final Fantasy Dimensions Round-up

FF Dimensions is a classic RPG for players on mobile devices. You can get above 20 hours of gameplay with its story and surely beyond 40 hours if you want to master every aspect of the game.

The story begins at a slow pace but eventually picks up as players will surely get drawn into the game. The Job system will also give players plenty of opportunity to mix and match their gameplay throughout the story which is also a bonus.

It’s clear that there’s nothing special or overly innovative for the graphics but for those that like old-school style artwork then that won’t be a problem. Players that are expecting a game like Final Fantasy III then you’ll probably look elsewhere.

The game itself is not free but it’s free to download and test it. You’ll need to pay $28 if you want to unlock the entire game. Whether it is worth the money is up to you but it’s a rather steep price for an iOS title, however it’s an entirely new story for fans.

Bottom line: It’s a traditional Final Fantasy jRPG with a brand new story.
