Apple has just revealed the stunning new iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5, whether you are a technology lover, entertainment enthusiast, or just a casual mobile game player this new announcement will definitely affect the way you handle on-the-go apps, games, movies, and just about anything you do on-the-go on your mobile device.
We’ll try to explain the key differences and make it short as most gamers know, it’s about certain aspects of the device that runs the game better and not so much the other functionality placed into the device.
iPod Touch 4 VS iPod Touch 5 Key Differences
Display (Retina Display)
- iPod Touch 4 display is 960×640-pixel resolution at 326 pixels per inch (3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display)
- iPod Touch 5 display is 1136-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 pixels per inch (4-inch diagonal widescreen Multi-Touch display)
- iPod Touch 4 Processor, Apple A4 Processor
- iPod Touch 5 Processor, Dual-core A5 chip (7X faster graphic)
- iPod Touch 4: 8GB, 32GB, 64GB
- iPod Touch 5: 32GB/64GB
These are probably the two most important aspect to the iPod Touch for gaming. As you can see the processor has been upgraded and the display resolution has also been increased a tad bit. That means your games will most likely run faster on the iPod Touch 5 than the iPod Touch 4 and that your screenshots will be slightly longer compared to the old iPod Touch from it’s increased LCD display. Other than that the width to width resolution are the same.
There are also other differences but those would mainly affect the way you use your iPod Touch and not how the game would preform.
iPod Touch 5 vs iPhone 5 for games
The iPhone isn’t necessary a game focused device because you can do so much more on it so ultimately, the choice is up to the price. Here are the key differences in terms of gaming and would be your deciding factor, if you are going to ultimately use the device as an all out gaming mobile console.
Display (Retina Display)
- iPod Touch 5 display is 1136-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 pixels per inch
- iPhone 5 display is 1136-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi
- iPod Touch 5 Processor, Dual-core A5 chip
- iPhone Processor, A6 chip
- iPod Touch 5 camera is 5 Megapixel
- iPhone 5 camera is 8 Megapixel

Whether you are debating you want to buy an iPhone 5, iPod Touch 5, or even the last generation iPod Touch 4, one thing is for sure, and that’s most games will run much faster and smoother on the new iPod Touch 5 and iPhone 5.
Debating on choosing to buy the iPod Touch 5 or iPhone 5 for gaming is ultimately up to the amount of money you’d want to spend. Keep in mind that when you are looking at an iPhone, you are not only at the device solely as a gaming system/console. And that you are looking at a device that can be used to placed phone called, LTE access, GPS/Maps, and so much more.
The iPod Touch on the other hand does similar things but focused on gaming, music, and now *memory capturing* using HD video recording and photography.
Both the new iPod Touch and iPhone packs some new design and upgraded specs, but if you own an iPhone 4S or an iPod Touch 4G (September 2012 at time of writing), you should wait for the announcement for the iPad mini. We believe the iPad Mini would be a much more suitable gaming device for players just simply because the wider screen and a lighter weight than the new iPad will definitely make the experience much better.
That being said, if you are looking to buy one soon then we highly recommend these devices as your gaming choice. The older generation device simply does not perform as well and with the new games being released, the older devices simply may not be supported.
