My Country 2020 Review

My Country 2020 is a “Sims”-like game for Apple devices such as the iPhone. It was developed by GameInsight and is free to download in the iTunes store. My Country 2020 is a simulation game in which you are in charge of running a country.

Gamers who enjoy games such as SimCity and the Roller  Coaster Tycoon series will enjoy this game. While there are plenty of building-simulation games on the iTunes market that have been memorable failures, My Country 2020 has made it to the top in mobile simulation gaming.

My Country 2020 Gameplay

The gameplay of My Country 2020 is similar to any well-developed tycoon/simulation game. It starts off with a tutorial of how the basic commands of the game work. The tutorial will have players build a couple of buildings, execute a couple of tasks, and most importantly get a feel for the rest of the game. After the tutorial, players are on their own to keep building. Building sites such as apartment complexes, office buildings, and public works buildings make up the majority of the gameplay. However, it is not that simple, which makes this game unique.

In order to build the buildings you need to bring certain things to the town (policemen, businessmen, food industry workers, etc) you will have to go on mini “quests”. These quests involve clicking on other buildings to find objects that will lead you to adding another installment. You have an energy bar and each task takes away energy so in a way, My Country 2020 is a time-based game.

You can buy more energy through the built-in app store but you can also put your phone down and wait for your energy bar to refill for no cost. As you continue to complete the quests, your town will grow bigger and bigger and you will level up. The more you level up, the more features you unlock such as traffic accidents, natural disasters, and more. There is always something to do in your country, whether it be dispatching the police for a car accident or dispatching the fire department for a blaze. You can even unlock features such as the seaport so you can travel and expand.

Getting money in the game is no problem as every time you complete a quest, a helicopter will fly over the screen and drop down money and experience, so the more you play, the more resources you will have. The only drawback to this game is that it will take a lot of time if you are not willing to pay for your energy bar. Other than that, it is a top-quality simulation game.

My Country 2020 Graphics

The graphics in My Country 2020 are great. When the game first opened and the helicopter that drops resources flew over the island, it lagged, which I thought was going to be an initial problem but it was not. The graphics of this game are so crisp that they are the same quality of a PC simulation game.

The screen shots of the “characters” are realistic and all of the other icons are designed so that you know what they are for. GameInsight put a lot of thought and resources into these graphics.

Overall, My Country 2020 is worth a download if you are into simulation/tycoon games. It is easy to catch onto and you will find yourself building a country in no time. It would be better if you did not have to wait for your energy bar to refill after doing every couple of tasks but that is a small price to pay for a game that you can download for no cost.

Bottom line: Build the country you see fit.
