In the game Dr. Jolt, the player takes on the role of Dr. Jolt Von Elekteberger’s lab assistant who helps him with his latest invention. The objective of each stage is to light up the lab by using currents of electricity to connect a series of light bulbs. In the first couple of stages, Dr. Jolt is by your side and offers you tips and hints on how to get started playing. The puzzles start out as simple and quickly become more challenging.
As the stages progress, Dr. Jolt provides you with tools such as relays, lightning rods, and other electricity conductors to help solve the puzzles with one touch of your fingertip. What makes the puzzles more challenging is that there is no countdown timer but there is an energy bar that lowers as you go through the trial and error of connecting each light bulb.
Every time you press your fingertip to the screen the energy bar will drain slightly. You can recharge it by buying batteries with the points you receive from completing the previous stage or you can turn the game off and wait for the bar to recharge manually. The controller is your fingertip as wherever you press on the board, a bolt of electricity is summoned. Each time you pass a stage you are rated out of three stars, similar to the Angry Bird’s set-up. You are awarded points based off of your performance, which can be put toward buying extra energy.
Dr. Jolt Graphics
The graphics in Dr. Jolt are phenomenal. The colors are very bright and fun, bringing out the whimsical aspect of this game. The lightning bolts that are generated by your fingertips are realistic and eye-popping. The introduction to each stage (for example, stage 1-1) is simplistic and nods to the origins of video games since it reflects the stage introduction style of Super Mario. The 3D graphics of this game represent the future of gaming yet make you feel like you are still playing with the 2D sprites of the past. You can tell that the makers of this game put much of their time and resources into the graphics.

All the sound effects are in place and nothing missing. There’s a really fun tune from the soundtrack.

Dr. Jolt is an excellent game for modern puzzle lovers. The ease of download makes it easy accessible for those who own a mobile device that is supported. While this game is designed for all ages, young children may get quickly frustrated with it as the puzzles can become very challenging.
For children, perhaps the younger audiences, they may find it difficult to navigate the game due to changes in basic touch screen gestures. Many of the pinches for zoom and single-finger touch and drag don’t work in this game but thankfully you can do those but in a different way.
For adults and those who love to solve problems or who like to keep their brains sharp, Dr. Jolt is a very fun, challenging, and rewarding game. It costs nothing to download it so if you are into puzzle games, give this one a shot.
