The Opal Dragon is the dragon in DragonVale released as the Gemstone dragon for the month of October. It was released to players on October 1st 2012 as the Sapphire Dragon (September Gemstone Dragon) was removed from the market.
Gemstone Dragons appear at the beginning of each month and expires at the end of the month for DragonVale players to breed. These dragons try to represent the birthstone of each month so that players born within that specific month will get a dragon that represents their birth month.
Opal Dragon Features
Last month we had the Sapphire Dragon, featuring a Blue dragon similar to the Sapphire Birth Stone and this month we have the Opal Dragon represent players born in October. The Opal Dragon features an design similar to an Opal Gemstone and is certainly one amazing dragon.
How to breed Opal Dragon
To breed the Opal Dragon you need to use a Mud Dragon and a Lava Dragon in your breeding island.
You can still breed the dragon using your breeding cave but it is most recommended that you use your breeding island for higher chances of getting the Opal Dragon.
Common Breeding Notes
Breeding is an mysterious event. Just because one player may get it and another may also get it, doesn’t mean you will get it. It is like Lottery, you need to have tremendous luck to breed any ultra rare dragons.
- The breeding order of the dragon will not affect your breeding chances. That means selecting a dragon on the left or on the right in your breeding island or breeding cave will not affect your breeding chances.
- Another myth is the level of your dragon will not affect your chances either. You can have two level 10 dragons and still not get the dragon you want. Some players have used lower level dragons and still were able to breed them. It is up to your luck in the game.

My bday is the 7th so I really wanted this dragon and I got it first try and first day thx to u guys!!!! Thx sooooo much I love it forever!!!
I don’t have a breeding island, so I tried with my breeding cave.
At first time, I won a bone dragon. (good, because I was trying to breed q bone dragon too : D)
At second time what I won was a mud dragon (:P…)
But, at third try, I won an opal dragon : D (I’m waiting it finishes incubating)
So, you can do it with a breeding cave too : D
